Peru: Amazonic Public Space
In the amazonic city of Tarapoto (San Martin-Peru), public space is the result of a process of urban expansion and the loss of large portions of green areas that used to provide important ecosystem services to the city. Nowadays, there is a scarcity of urban green spaces in Tarapoto and its socio-historical relationship with the environment has deteriorated significantly. In order to understand the cultural, environmental and architectural importance of amazonic public spaces, we will start a walk through the Suchiche park (environmental importance), El Achual spring (cultural importance), streets with vernacular houses (architectural importance), and finish with a final reflection from the experience at the Fondero spring.
