The Urban Conservancy and StayLocal are working with local architect and Jane Jacobs scholar Marilyn Feldmeier (who is also a resident of the neighborhood). Our focus is on "What Makes West Mag a Success?" West Mag is the stretch between Jefferson and Henry Clay. This area is distressed as a result of the Southeast Louisiana (SELA) drainage construction project. Marilyn will talk about Jane Jacobs' principles of business mix, streetscape, density, etc., as well as political power, in the context of major business disruptors of street construction (the SELA project). Charlotte and Dana will present West Mag as an example of workable strategies commercial corridors throughout New Orleans can replicate to weather the major infrastructure improvements that will interfere with foot traffic for the foreseeable future.
